Rains
The weather was hellish a week back and a lot of people is uploading videos to YouTube to prove it. I’m just putting up a few in this post:

Fabulosos Cadillacs
This past Friday the Fabulosos Cadillacs came to Tijuana. Even though the place didn’t fill up — I thought it would — the ambiance was great and I’m sure all those who went had a good time.
Because of the economy I got a ticket for $440 pesos. When I got to the Estadio Caliente and saw how the stands were organized I lamented my choice because it’s pretty big:
From where I was sitting I wouldn’t get to see anything, so when people got a bit unruly to get down to the bottom I had my chance to get down there. I do apologize to those who bought tickets for $550 pesos. There were a few impatient ones who ended up hurting themselves (picture three in the Frontera.info gallery) and probably didn’t get to see the concert at all.
Once down there I managed to get to the second row in front of the stage by shoving, kneeing and elbowing my way there. A hard labor that gave me good results you can see on my Flickr account. I uploaded the panoramic picture as well.
There are also tons of videos to be found on YouTube. I’m editing mine to turn down the volume a bit; I was in front of the loudspeaker tower so the audio is hideous at times. For now I’ve already uploaded one:

The Good:
- A lot of porta-potties, which a lot of people were thankful for.
- Lots of food, if you were hungry.
- Lots of parking. I wouldn’t know if it was expensive or not, I don’t have a car xD
The Bad:
- Horrendous security. Some asshole could have introduced a gun and the security personnel wouldn’t have even realized it until it was too late.
- The Cadillacs began playing at 22:15. The damn ticket said the concert would begin at 20:00.
So there was more good stuff than bad. It was a good night to sing as loud as you could.

Fabulosos Cadillacs
Este viernes pasado vinieron los Cadillacs a Tijuana. Aunque no hubo lleno total — que yo pensé si habría — hubo buen ambiente y estoy seguro que todos los que fuimos la pasamos bien.
Como la crisis esta dura me compre un boleto de $440 pesos. Ya que había llegado al lugar y vi como estarían organizados los lugares me arrepentí; el estadio esta grandecito:
Desde ahí no se vería ni madres, así que en una de esas que la gente se amontono para bajar a la cancha tuve mi oportunidad y me cole vilmente. Lastima por aquellos que pagaron $550 pesos por un boleto de cancha. Hubo algunos que por impacientes salieron lastimados (foto 3 en la galeria del Frontenis) y muy probablemente no hayan visto el concierto.
Ya estando abajo a fuerza de empujones, codazos, rodillazos y sapes me cole hasta la segunda fila enfrente del escenario. Una ardua labor que me dejo buenos frutos que pueden ver en mi cuenta de Flickr. La foto panorámica también la subí allá.
También están como muestra los vídeos que uno encuentra en YouTube. Yo ando editando los míos pa’ que no suenen tan gacho; como estuve enfrente de la torre de bocinas el audio se escucha bastante mal a veces, por lo cual les ando bajando el volumen.

Lo Bueno:
- Hubo cantidad de baños portátiles, para el gran alivio de muchos.
- Venta de mucha comida.
- Amplio estacionamiento. No se si haya sido caro o no, no tengo coche xD
Lo malo:
- Mala seguridad. Algún cabrón pudo haber metido una pistola y el personal de seguridad ni en cuenta.
- Los Cadillacs comenzaron a tocar a las 22:15 de la noche. No mamen, el boleto decía que a las 20:00.
Mas cosas buenas que malas. Fue una buena noche para cantar a todo pulmon.

En el fin de semana
El viernes pasado tuvimos al Naza Space Circus aquí en Tijuana. Harta diversión, durante la cual conocí a una muchacha especial que logro que me pusiera de un humor creativo. Lo cual es extremadamente raro, ya que no tengo ni un gramo de creatividad en mis huesos. Pero lo logro, para nuestro disfrute compartido.
Llegue al Hipódromo a las 20:00 exactas y de ahí no llegue a casa hasta las 08:00 del Sábado. Eso seria la primera vez que no he llegado a casa antes de las 3am; chingao, seria la primera vez que no llego a casa pa’ empezar. Ahora veo la parte de mi que ha clamado ser liberada: el Animal Fiestero. No la pienso soltar, resulta muy caro ser uno, especialmente con la economía a punto de ir vertical sobre nuestros traseros.
Una buena noche…
El Sábado lo pase con el niño. Le envidio su cabello, es todo una estrella. Lastima que no tiene todo lo que se merece, incluyendo una buena educación. Aunque duele decirle que no cuando lo veo tan pocas horas a la semana, se tiene que hacer. Quiero que sea un ser humano decente.
Después el Domingo ZeroSoul hizo funcionar un poco de magia con x2x, con seis monitores en tres computadoras siendo controlados con un solo mouse y teclado. Es de lo mas chido que he visto en un rato. Se compara al Synergy, pero hecho a través de SSH.
Así que mas que nada escribo esto para recordarlo en el futuro dado que es probable que lo olvide en el futuro cercano.

Over the weekend
Last Friday we had Naza Space Circus here in Tijuana. Loads of fun, during which I met a special girl who managed to get me into a creative mood. Which itself is extremely strange, as I haven’t got an ounce of creativity in my bones. But manage she did, much to our shared enjoyment.
Got to the Hipodromo at 20:00 sharp, then didn’t get home until 08:00 Saturday morning. That would be the first time I haven’t gotten home before 3am; hell, that would make it the first time I haven’t gotten home at all. Now I see the part in me which had been clamoring to be released: the Party Animal. I won’t get released, it’s too expensive to be one, what with the economy about to go vertical on our asses.
Such fun…
Saturday spent it with the kid. I envy his hair, he’s such a star. Too bad he’s not getting everything he deserves, including a good education. Even though it hurts to say no to him when I see him so few hours every week, it’s got to be done. I want him to be a great human being.
Then on Sunday ZeroSoul got a bit of x2x goodness going, with six monitors on three computers controlled with a single mouse and keyboard. It’s some of the niftiest stuff I’ve seen in a while. It’s comparable to Synergy, but done over SSH.
So mostly I’m writing this up to actually remember it in the future, as I’m apt to forget all this in the near future.
FestiArte 2008
Tons el fin de semana pasado tuvimos al FestiArte aquí en Playas de Tijuana. Mucha música, mucho vino y sobre todo mucho arte.
Digo, hubo cuatro escenarios oficiales con sonido, mas casas de jardín extra-grandes para que la gente vendiera sus artículos, actos programados por conjuntos de actores y algunos actos espontáneos por visitantes.
En definitiva podías rellenarte de arte.
Pero se me había olvidado por completo. El Sábado salí con mi pequeño para que se divirtiera un rato. Pasamos por el parque México para mirar alrededor — una vez que ya había recordado el evento — y de ahi fuimos a la playa a jugar en la arena. El chamaco la paso muy bien… ya no le tiene miedo al mar.

Oh si, cierto, estaba hablando del FestiArte. La verdad no vi mucho que digamos el Sábado, con el chamaco correteando palomas y después mirando como una banda tocada desde atrás del escenario. Cuando regrese después me toco ver un acto de danza árabe en el escenario principal, DJ Torquemada tocando en un área casi vacía, otra banda tocar en el escenario grande (que era el mas alejado del área principal de actividades) y una cantante en todavía otro escenario. Muchas cosas ocurriendo en el mismo instante, pero sin conexión a alguna de ellas. Me fui a mi casa.
Fui otra vez el Domingo en la noche después del trabajo para ver como la gente se comenzaba a ir, *sigh*. La ultima banda en tocar en el escenario grande se llama Quema Madera. Estos weyes son chidos, con el vocalista logrando mantener entretenida a un pequeño grupo de gente y sacándonos unas buenas carcajadas a todos.
Pero como todo hubo algunos lados malos. El sonido en algunos de los escenarios sonaba de la chingada, con bocinas tronadas siendo forzadas en exceso, el ya mencionado “muchas cosas ocurriendo en el mismo instante”, que implica cierta falta de organización a la hora de programar eventos; y comida cara. Especialmente la comida, que resulta ser mi mayor queja. Un vasito de agua de horchata? 15 pesos. Un muy pequeño platito de espagueti tibio? 25 pesos. La mejor comida era de 50 pesos para arriba, y aun así en raciones pequeñas.
Cuando voy a estas cosas espero ser bien alimentado y bien barato. No en esta ocasión. Fui al centro y me atasque de tacos de adobada.
En general este fue un exitoso suceso comparado con otros eventos artisticos que he visto aqui en Tijuana. Particularmente exitosa fue una muchacha en lenceria negra y peluca morado brillante el Domingo en la noche. Seria bueno tener mas exitos como el de ella.
FestiArte 2008
So this past weekend we had FestiArte here in Playas de Tijuana. Lots of music, lots of wine and above it all lots of art.
Hell, there were four official stages with big sound, plus lots of oversized garden houses for people to sell their wares, scheduled shows by actor troupes and then some impromptu acts by visitors.
You could definitely get your art on.
Had totally forgotten about it though. Saturday went out with the little one so he could have some fun. Went to Mexico park to see around — once I had remembered about the event — then went down to the beach to play in the sand. Kid had a good time… he’s not afraid of the sea anymore.
Had a good time.
I was talking about FestiArte, right. Truth be told, I didn’t actually get to see that much on Saturday, what with the kid scaring pigeons and watching a band play from behind the stage. When I went back later in the day, only got to see this Arabian dance act start up in the main stage, DJ Torquemada playing in another almost-empty stage, a band playing in the big stage (which was the farthest one away from the main area of stalls) and a woman singing in yet another stage. Lots of things going on at the same time but I wasn’t really connected to any of them. Went home.
Went again Sunday night after work to see people beginning to leave, *sigh*. The last band to play on the big stage was called Quema Madera. These guys are good, with the vocalist managing to keep a small crowd entertained and pulling a few hearty laughs out of everyone there.
But like in everything there were a few negative things. The sound in some of the stages sounded like crap, with blown out speakers being forced too much, the aforementioned “lots of stuff going on at the same time”, which implies some lack of organization when scheduling events, and overpriced food. Specially the food, which would be my biggest complain. A pitiful cup of horchata? 15 pesos. A very small plate of lukewarm spaghetti? 25 pesos. The more worthy food was 50 pesos and up, and then in small servings as well.
When I go to these things I expect to be fed very well and very cheaply. It was not to be this time. Went to el Centro and gorged on adobada tacos.
All in all, this was a smashing success when compared to other artsy events I’ve seen here in Tijuana. Particularly successful was a girl in black lingerie and a bright purple wig on Sunday night. Could definitely use more successes like her.
