Tranquille

Patito y Tranquille

Aplicaciones como Firefox, The GIMP y Winamp ahora si funcionan bien.

Bienvenida Tranquille.

  1. A few questions from a blog idiot

How do you keep the spammers from eating you alive? i’ve seen blogs with nothing but spam postings.

How do you keep some left wing extremist from posting racist or defamatory rhetoric? and if you cant stop them, what are you legally liabel when they do?

can viruses be posted to blogs?

  2. Myself here’s what I did:
On the Options/Discussion tab on the WP back end I blacklisted any comments that have the words casino, poker, prescription, mature, porn and insurance. That alone took care of about 90% of all the incoming comment spam. There are still at least two or three spam comments every day but that’s something I’m willing to put up with. However, you have to be extremely careful with that as any comment containing those terms will be automatically nuked and will not appear on your moderation list. I also disallowed comments from open and unsecured proxies, hold comments with more than 3 links on the moderation queue and people who have commented beforehand are allowed to bypass the moderation queue.

There are other options like the ones listed here that will help you manage comments after a certain threshold. Most of the people who comment here do so in Spanish so it’s extremely unlikely that I’ll get comment spam that way.

The specific pages you probably want to look at are Combating Comment Spam, Spam Words, Using .htaccess to deny access to specific IP addresses and poke around Weblog Tools Collection (you might want to start here.

If you need more, you can always search on google, yahoo or technorati for tips and ideas.
